Acton Scott Farm Walk

This is a walk through farmland with beautiful views of the South Shropshire countryside.

It is suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities but some of the surfaces are uneven in places. In Summer, strong shoes are suitable but during Seasons when the fields are wet, waterproof footwear is necessary.

The walk is about 1.5 miles and will take at least half an hour to complete. Allow one hour if you would like to stop for views or pause for photographs.

Pass through the metal field gate opposite the entrance to Acton Scott Farm. (If starting from the Farm Museum, turn left from the Museum entrance and walk a short distance up the road to the Acton Scott Farm entrance).

Acton Scott Farm Walk - Metal Gate

Follow the track down the field to the metal gate. The hill in front of you is "Ragleth" and just to the right in the distance is Hope Bowdler Hill. Use the stile or pass through the metal gate at the bottom of the track. Bear RIGHT to the narrow metal gate, crossing over the stream as you approach the gate.

You can now continue to follow the bridleway track straight ahead OR bear left and upwards passing a big oak tree on your right, on to the field edge, where the views can be seen. Continue upwards, on the edge of the field, joining the bridleway again at the top of the slope. Metal Gate
As you walk, notice the splendid views of the Longmynd on your left. Follow the bridleway to the kissing gate in the opening in front of you. Pass through and turn LEFT, leaving the bridleway which continues straight ahead. As you walk along the field edge you will see the next kissing gate in front of you.

Half way along this field, pause and look behind. The hill in the distance, beyond Wenlock Edge is the Clee Hill with masts on the top and to the right is "Flounders Folly" on Callow Hill.

Continue ahead; on your right are buildings at Ragdon Farm and beyond is Hazler Hill with a telephone mast on the top.

Acton Scott Walk Ragleth Hill

Pass through into the next field and continue to the kissing gate ahead. You are now walking towards Ragleth Hill.

After passing through into the next field, immediately turn RIGHT and follow around the field edge until you come to another kissing gate near the field corner. This gate should be visible on your left as you begin to walk around the field edge.

Pass through the kissing gate and turn LEFT to follow the field edge, where there is wide grass margin. Look left through gaps in the hedge to see views of Wenlock Edge, Clee Hills and Flounders Folly.

Pass out of the field and you will see a bench on your right where you can rest a while before turning LEFT on to the lane and walking back to Acton Scott. Turn LEFT again when you reach the crossroads and you will soon be back where you began the walk.
